Dedicated to the Great Dane

MISSION:

The Great Dane Club of Oxford, Inc. (CT) Rescue (GDCOR) is committed to finding homes for Great Danes that are surrendered as a result of divorce, a new baby, relocation, family time constraints and many other reasons due to the popularity of the breed. (GDCOR) was organized to serve the entire state of Connecticut with assisting Great Danes in need. The program operates under The Great Dane Club of Oxford, Inc. (CT) which is a not for profit civic organization.

GDCOR is currently being staffed by two volunteers. Our rescue mission is dedicated to finding Great Danes and mixed Dane dogs a wonderful new home. Prior to adoption, our Danes will be evaluated both medically and temperamentally. We foster them until a permanent home is found and approved. This allows us to determine each dog's characteristics & personality so they are placed in an adoptive home that is the "right match".

We require spay/neuter before adoption, bring dog current on vaccinations and test for Heartworm, Lyme & begin treatment If necessary. We are also prepared to treat for other medical care as needed and if necessary. Our goal is to find families that understand the commitment required by these dogs to provide these gentle giants with the best home possible. We are committed to finding a perfect permanent placement and we are always willing to accept a dog back in rescue for any reason.

GDCOR
helps people to:

  • Become knowledgeable about the Great Dane breed before getting one.
  • determine if a Great Dane is the right breed for their lifestyle.
  • learn more about the care and training of Great Danes
  • Match a healthy and loving companion Dane to their home and lifestyle.
  • Find loving permanent homes for Danes they can no longer keep.
  • Help Resolve their Danes physical/behavioral problem through breed support/awareness.
  • Support and take part in community relations events to benefit the Great Dane Breed.

GDCOR helps Danes:

  • By offering the rescue and care of Great Danes who need a new home, or have been abandoned, neglected, and/or abused by their previous owners.
  • We spay/neuter and provide medical treatment as necessary to return the Dane back to good health.
  • We also supply training/socialization to ensure their adaptability to new, good homes.
  • Our goal is to place rescue Danes in a new home with people who will provide, companionship and a secure, loving and healthy permanent home.
